For his entire career, Dr. Randy Pearson has been dedicated to training family physicians to become caring stewards of their patients’ health and well-being. After two years in private practice in Grand Ledge, MI, Randy joined the faculty of the MSU College of Human Medicine Department of Family Medicine, where he has served for over 36 years. Beginning as a residency faculty member at the department’s Family Medicine Residency at St. Lawrence Hospital, he eventually became program director, a position he held until the hospital (and residency) merged with Sparrow Hospital in 2000. He has served as residency faculty at the Sparrow program since then. Residents at the program are grateful for his down-to-earth, yet solidly evidence based, manner in which he delivers both care to his patients (many of whom have been with him since his own residency!) and their many didactic and precepting educational experiences. Although he embraces the holistic concepts of his specialty, he gains the most joy from helping his patients get OFF medication—through diet and lifestyle changes.
Along with his board certification in Family Medicine, Randy also holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine and has served as a team physician at Michigan State for his entire academic career. In addition, he was honored to serve as a volunteer physician for the US delegation to the 1999 World University Games. He also gives back to his community, serving for many years as the Medical Director for the Michigan Breast Cancer 3-Day and as a medical provider for the Wish A-Mile event for Make-A-Wish Michigan.
In his spare time, Randy enjoys playing golf and pickleball and exercising whenever possible. He also loves walking his “best buddy”, his Husky mix Koda. He has three grown daughters who are his “pride and joy”.
